January is an exciting time and many people make New Year’s
Resolutions; like losing weight, giving up smoking, writing a book, and other
pledges. Studies show that only 8% of
people keep their New Year’s Resolutions, however. That drive and determination we have in
January, quickly gets overwhelmed by our daily lives.
The other day I was having coffee with a friend and neither
of us had made any New Year’s Resolutions for 2017. My friend told me that instead she planned to
focus on a balance of her mind, body, and soul on a regular basis. Making smaller adjustments in her life to
achieve balance, rather than grand promises that wouldn’t withstand the crush
of daily activities.
I thought was a great way to go about things. I already have a similar program every other
Thursday. On Thursdays, I wake up and go
to my body pump class first thing in morning.
At lunch, I have Bible study, to refill my soul. After work, I have my local Stuttgart International Toastmasters Club
Life is busy, we need to remember to keep balance. One day might be more focused on one aspect
than another. That is perfectly all
right. Sometimes, the opportunity also arises
when we can do more than one at the same time, like when I was able to run at
sunrise on the beach. The key is for
each of us to practice balance in our daily lives. We don’t need sweeping resolutions and
changes. Most of simply need small adjustments
to restore balance to our lives.
